Missed waste collections

Excess waste due to a missed collection

If a missed collection occurs at a household and means you have more waste than you can store until your next collection, you'll need to make your own arrangements to dispose of any excess waste.

You can do this by taking your waste to one of our Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) or recycle bank locations:

If you choose to use a ‘man with a van’ waste removal service, you must take all reasonable measures to ensure you only give your waste for removal and disposal to an authorised person. You can do this by asking to see their waste carriers licence.

We're not responsible for clearing waste from communal areas that has built up due to incorrect presentation, blocked access or damaged bins.

If you're experiencing issues with communal bins, such as lack of bin capacity, contamination, or damage, contact your property manager, housing manager, or landlord to report the problem who will need to arrange for the bin store to be emptied and cleaned for collections to continue.

You can contact the Waste, Highways and Environmental Services Team if your property is experiencing excessive waste build-up due to medical reasons. For example, this may be due to items such as adult incontinence pads that take up more space in a bin. We may be able to arrange:

  • a larger black bin for your household waste (if you live in a wheeled bin collection area)
  • weekly medical collections
  • assisted waste collections if you live alone and have difficulty moving your bins or boxes due to your age or a disability
