Waste disposal at Hazel Court HWRC
Recycle/dispose of the following items at Hazel Court HWRC:

- scrap metal

- car oil
- fire extinguishers, gas bottles (see our chargeable waste prices)
- bonded asbestos (see our chargeable waste prices)
- chemicals, paint (household only)
- general landfill waste
We can't accept:
- paint (from commercial customers)
- petrol
- diesel
- paraffin
- pesticides and chemicals from farms or industry
- poisons
- tyres
- printer cartridges

Hazel Court HWRC opening hours
Between October and March:
- Mondays to Saturdays: 8.30am to 5.00pm
- Sundays: 8.30am to 4.00pm
Between April and September:
- Mondays to Saturdays: 8.30am to 7.00pm
- Sundays: 8.30am to 4.00pm
Note: Last entry is 15 minutes before closing time. We may refuse entry if you arrive later.
We're closed on:
- Christmas Day
- Boxing Day
- New Year's Day
We're open as usual on all other Bank Holidays, but it can be very busy at these times.
Access to Hazel Court HWRC
The height barrier for the site is 1.9 metres (if your vehicle is taller, follow the signs around the barrier).
Pedestrians must use the dedicated disposal area to the left of the main site entrance.
Permits for larger vehicles at Hazel Court HWRC
Apply for a booklet of free permits to access the site if you live in York and you're bringing your household waste to the site in:
- pickups or 4 x 4 with a pickup
- transit vans or small vans
- box or Luton vans
- minibuses or campervans
- all trailers
The maximum size trailer that will be permitted is 3m x 1.8m
Some vehicles have restrictions on which site you can use. This information will be provided with your permits.
These permits are not for commercial waste disposal.
Allow 10 working days for us to process your application and your permits to arrive by post.
We only allow one booklet of permits per household per year. You will need to submit a new application if you require a new booklet of permits.

Landlord waste permits for Hazel Court HWRC
Landlords can apply for landlord waste permits to dispose of tenants' waste up to 3 times per year, per property.
Note: You shouldn't use these permits to dispose of waste from maintenance or improvement work to your property - this is considered as commercial waste.
Bringing hire vehicles to Hazel Court HWRC
If you live in York and wish to visit Hazel Court HWRC using a hire vehicle, you should bring:
- hire vehicle documents
- proof of your address and residency (for example: a utility bill with your name and address)
Note: You don't need to contact us before your visit.
Businesses using hire vehicles must register with us prior to using the site and will be charged - see commercial waste disposal for registration information.
Hazel Court HWRC charges and payments
See our chargeable waste prices which apply to dispose of certain items including:
- brick
- rubble
- gas bottles
- fire extinguishers
- plasterboard
- bonded asbestos
You can only bring these items to Hazel Court HWRC - we don't accept these at Towthorpe/Strensall HWRC.
We can only accept payment via credit/debit card - we're unable to accept payment by cash or cheque.
Disposing of asbestos at Hazel Court HWRC
Contact us first if you plan on bringing asbestos to Hazel Court HWRC, so we can check there's enough room in the skip. Note: There's a charge for this service - find out more about our chargeable waste prices.
We cannot accept asbestos from traders. If a tradesperson has removed asbestos on your behalf, they're responsible for disposing of it safely.
Contact the Environment Agency to find local disposal facilities.
Disposing of trade waste at Hazel Court HWRC
We accept trade waste at Hazel Court HWRC - see commercial waste disposal for further information.
Pedestrian and bike access
We don't allow access to the main site for pedestrians or bicycles - use the dedicated disposal area to the left of the main site entrance. We've placed bins here for general rubbish and some types of recycling.
You can also leave other items accepted on site, which our staff will place in the correct containers. Usage of this area is monitored to avoid misuse.

We sell 40 litre bags of compost for:
- £4.00 per bag, or
- 3 bags for £10.00
