Book to visit Hazel Court HWRC
We've introduced the need to book to visit Hazel Court Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) as use of the site has contributed to queues and wider traffic impacts around the James Street area. Booking will help manage peak demand, improve road safety, and maintain recycling service quality.
You must book an appointment to visit Hazel Court HWRC if you want to attend in a vehicle, to dispose of residential or commercial waste.
You also need an appointment if you want to visit in a vehicle to collect recycling boxes or lids, or to purchase compost or compost bins.
There is no need to book to visit Hazel Court HWRC if you're using the pedestrian and bicycle access area.

Prepare for your visit
Before you book your visit, you should check that you are prepared and ready to attend.
You must arrive on time, and bring your booking confirmation and reference number with you, in printed or digital format. We may be unable to allow entry if you’re late for your appointment.
You must arrive in the vehicle which matches the registration details used during booking.
If using a hire vehicle you must bring appropriate documents; hire agreement and proof of your address within the York area.
You must bring only an amount of waste that you can unload within your booked appointment time, considering entry and exit:
- 10 minutes per appointment for residents
- 15 minutes for small commercial waste loads
- 30 minutes for larger commercial waste loads

You must follow preparing and handling advice if you’re disposing of asbestos.
You must bring a means of payment (debit or credit card only) for any chargeable waste.
Please note that there will be a charge if you're a non-York resident.
Book your visit
To book your visit using our online form you'll need:
- your address
- details of the waste you need to dispose of; amount and type
- details of the vehicle you’re using to transport the waste
- pre-arranged permits if required; for example for landlords and commercial waste or residents with larger vehicles or trailers
Book to visit Hazel Court HWRC
Bookings can be made up to 14 days in advance of a planned visit.
There's a maximum of 2 visits per day for commercial waste and 4 visits per week for residential waste.
We reserve the right to monitor and restrict booking activity to ensure fair access for all users.
Landlords and commercial waste
You will need an appointment to visit Hazel Court HWRC if you are a landlord or disposing of commercial waste.
You must not book your appointment until you have the appropriate registration or permits.
Pre-arranged permits are required if you’re a landlord disposing of waste from a property you manage.
Businesses, charities and landlords must be registered with the HWRC and stop at the weighbridge if:
- disposing of commercial waste
- disposing of waste on behalf of someone else
- you have taken payment for disposal of waste
Normal invoicing rates apply.
Larger vehicles or trailers
You will need an appointment to visit Hazel Court HWRC if you have a larger vehicle or trailer.
You must not book your appointment until you have the appropriate registration or permits.
Pre-arranged permits are required if you’re a resident with a larger vehicle or trailer.
