Waste and recycling

Waste and recycling standards

As part of our Waste Strategy, all household waste we collect is sent to Allerton Waste Recovery Park (AWRP), meaning we now operate a 'zero waste to landfill' service.

This means all your household waste is now recycled or incinerated and transformed into green energy.

In addition to this, we also provide:

Our waste collection promise to our customers

We promise to:

  • collect your household waste and recycling on the scheduled collection day
  • return for a missed collection by the end of the next working day
  • leave your streets clean and tidy after collections
  • help people with limited mobility with collection arrangements
  • work with businesses to reduce commercial waste and help them recycle
  • inform you of any changes to collection days, such as Christmas and Bank Holidays
  • ensure our HWRCs are accessible and easy to use
  • promote waste minimisation and encourage recycling
  • let you know how well we're doing in reducing and recycling our waste
  • provide user-friendly ways of reporting concerns about performance
  • respond promptly in response to customer requests
  • provide value for money

Help us run a better waste service

You can help us by:

  • remembering to put your waste/recycling out before 7.00am on your collection day
  • making sure your rubbish is contained within your bin or black sack (extra bags will not be collected)
  • not putting dangerous or heavy items in your bin, such as: waste oil, paint, rubble or metal bars
  • reducing the amount of waste your household or business creates
  • considering home composting where possible
  • reporting fly-tipping online
  • reporting bags and bins put out too early for collection by contacting Waste, Highways and Environmental Services
  • telling us when you have a concern about our service
  • filling in our customer surveys and questionnaires
