Replacement recycling boxes
Recycling boxes and lids are provided free of charge. Boxes are 55 litres in size.
We've been encouraged by your enthusiasm for recycling, so as part of our ongoing commitment to increase the amount of waste we recycle, we'll continue to provide 3 free replacement boxes for kerbside recycling collections.
You can collect a maximum of 2 additional or replacement recycling boxes free of charge from our household waste recycling centres. Simply ask a member of staff upon arrival and provide proof of address, such as a driver's licence or utility bill, to swap your broken boxes and lids on-site.
If you're unable to attend a household waste recycling centre you can contact Waste, Highways and Environmental Services and ask to have them delivered. We’ll aim to deliver recycling boxes within 10 working days of your order.
We advise you to label your recycling boxes with your house number and street name.
Please note, we're unable to remove old boxes; to dispose of your old recycling boxes, see: recycling hard plastics.

If you don't wish to use our recycling boxes
If you don’t use our recycling boxes, put correctly separated waste into your own similar sized containers (approximately 55 litres). You must ensure these containers are robust and in good condition. We won't be able to replace them if they get lost or damaged.
We strongly recommend using our 'industry standard' boxes due to their durability and for the safety of our Waste Team.
When putting out recycling for collection:
- you can put plastic, foil and metal in carrier bags (left open so our Waste Team can clearly see the contents)
- glass or cardboard shouldn't be placed in bags
Don't use cardboard boxes as recycling containers due to risks the box:
- is blown away
- is damaged by rain or damp conditions
- falls apart during collections
- takes up too much space and fills our vehicles much quicker
