Biography: The Sheriff's Consort

Sue Hunter is the current Sheriff of York; her partner, Nigel Patrick Goodwin, is the Sheriff’s Consort for the civic year 2023 to 2024.

Born at Fulford Maternity Hospital, Nigel was brought up on Bright Street in the Leeman Road area of York attending St Barnabas Primary and Manor secondary modern schools.
His first job was at the Post Office delivering Telegrams and later as Postman. He then trained as a Scaffolder working for local companies before leaving to work in Holland. He returned after 8 Months, cycling from Amsterdam via Rotterdam and Harwich, along the east coast to Hull and back to York.

Shortly after he was off again this time to work in London and then to Aviemore in Scotland, where he stayed for 8 months before leaving to work in Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps of Southern Germany where he stayed for 4 years and then to the City of Munich for a further 6 Years.

Returning to the UK in 1990 he set up as a Scaffolding Contractor and has since worked in and around the city for many local builders big and small and on countless properties for private customers.

Nigel now lives in Acomb with his partner Sue.
