Lord Mayor’s Commendation Scheme

The Lord Mayor’s Commendation Scheme has been introduced in 2026.

Commendations are the second highest recognition receivable for a resident or group within the City of York Council boundary, the highest being the ‘Freedom of the City.'

It's intended to be awarded at the discretion of the Civic Party to individuals and groups that have made a difference to their community or have been of particular support to the Civic Party over several years.

The Mansion House

Situated in St Helen's Square, in the heart of York city centre, the Mansion House is the official residence of the Lord Mayor of York during their term of office.

The Guildhall

Built in the 15th century and situated on the River Ouse The Guildhall is where council meetings are held and chaired by the Lord Mayor.
