We offer 'pre-application' planning advice to give you informal guidance on the content and presentation of your proposal before you submit a planning application.

Submit a Householder Enquiry Form to find out whether a planning permission application is required for:

  • an extension to your house
  • an alteration to your house or garden

Submit a Commercial Enquiry Form to find out whether a planning permission application is required to:

  • run a business from your home
  • make an alteration to a flat, shop, office or commercial building

Submit a pre-application planning advice form if you know that you need to submit an application, but want advice on the likelihood of your application being successful.

Download our pre-application fees and charges leaflet 2018/19 to see what we offer and what costs are involved, then complete and return your form, along with the relevant fee.

Our pre-application advice

Our guidance is informal and given without prejudice, but helps identify any issues relevant to your development, so you can consider them before you finalise your proposals and submit a planning application.

This approach gives you the opportunity to improve your submission and speed up the planning decision process.

Any pre-application correspondence will be made available for public inspection under the Freedom of Information Act or Environmental Information Regulations, unless the information is deemed exempt.
