Advice for independent living tenants

Safety and security

Housing Management Officers (HMO's) may have a duplicate key or master key to your property, which they only use in an emergency.

Community alarm system

Your HMO will have shown you how to use the community alarm system when you moved in. If you press the alarm by mistake, don't worry - just tell the operator that you don't need any help at that time.

Fire safety

Our rules about fire safety and precautions help everyone living in independent living schemes, especially since there are some shared facilities.

You must:

  • never ignore any alarms you hear
  • never prop any fire doors open
  • not interfere with (or remove) the self-closing mechanism on internal doors
  • not use the lift in case of a fire
  • use the fire alarm system immediately if there is a fire

If you have any hearing difficulties, please inform your HMO.
