The Warm Homes: Local Grant (WHLG) is a government-funded scheme aimed at improving the energy efficiency of homes and reducing energy costs.
The scheme is part of the wider Warm Homes Plan, supporting the transition to net zero by 2050 and helping to tackle fuel poverty.
The grant covers energy-saving upgrades, including insulation, low-carbon heating systems, and smart energy technologies. This scheme is administered by us, and funding is available to York residents.
City of York Council is working in partnership with Sureserve Energy Services Ltd to deliver the scheme.
Upgrades available through WHLG
The WHLG provides funding for energy-saving improvements, which may include:
- insulation - loft, wall, underfloor and park home insulation
- heating systems - air or ground source heat pumps, hybrid heating and high retention storage heaters
- renewable energy - solar panels and battery storage
- smart technologies - digital heating controls and hot water cylinder insulation
- windows and doors - double or triple glazing and energy efficient doors
Funding is available for energy efficiency and low-carbon heating upgrades, with cost caps in place to ensure value for money. The amount awarded will depend upon the measures required for your home to reach an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of C.
Upgrades must be installed by the council's procured contractor, Sureserve Energy Services Ltd, who are TrustMark-registered and PAS 2030/2035-certified.
