We've allocated up to £38m for improvements to the A1237 York Outer Ring Road (YORR) in order to reduce congestion, using funds from the West Yorkshire Plus Transport Fund*.
The Monks Cross junction is the second of the 7 YORR roundabouts to be upgraded.

Proposed improvements to the Monks Cross junction
The approach lanes to the roundabout will be widenened. More approach lanes will increase the capacity for traffic to flow through the roundabout, this in turn will help to reduce congestion and journey times.
The plans are based on providing:
- 3 lane entries on ring road approaches to the roundabout
- 2 lane exits when leaving the roundabout to continue on the ring road

Construction stages and duration
The Monks Cross roundabout improvement works are planned for early 2019, although some site clearance work could start earlier.
