Reduced signing service

Electoral Services will provide a reduced service for the signing of pension or proof of life forms until April 2020, when the service will transfer to the Registrars.

Pension signing will only be possible on Wednesdays or Thursdays and only with an appointment. Contact Electoral Services to make an appointment by emailing electoral.services@york.gov.uk or telephone 01904 551239.

If you arrive at West Offices without an appointment we won't be able to sign your form.

If you're a British, Irish, Commonwealth or European Union citizen and receive a pension from another country, we can provide a stamp on your ‘Proof of life’ form (free of charge) to confirm your residency in the UK.

You'll need to contact Electoral Services to make an appointment at West Offices.

Each person named on the ‘Proof of life’ form will need to attend the appointment and bring the following:

  • the ‘Proof of life’ form you need us to authorise
  • a valid passport, driver's licence, bus pass or other photo ID

You'll also need to bring one of the following to prove your address:

  • a utility bill dated no more than 3 months before the date of your appointment
  • a bank or building society statement or passbook dated no more than 1 month before the date of your appointment
  • a council tax bill dated no more than 1 year before the date of your appointment

Your details and the electoral register

If your name on your ‘Proof of life’ form is different to what's on the electoral register, you'll also need to provide proof of your change of name (such as a marriage certificate).

We provide proof of address by checking the electoral register against the address listed on your ‘Proof of life’ form.

If you're not a British, Irish, Commonwealth or European Union citizen, you'll need to provide proof of address using a bank statement or utility bill. This is because your name will not appear on the electoral register.

Pension and proof of life form signing after April 2020

From April 2020 the pension and proof of life form signing will be undertaken by Registrars; details of how to book an appointment will be provided on this page in January 2020.
