The Local Plan timetable featured on this page shows key dates in the preparation of our new York Local Plan 2045. It will be updated when key changes to the timetable are anticipated.
This timetable is to have effect from the date it was published.
The Local Plan will cover the administrative area of City of York Council and will:
- set out a vision, spatial strategy, and planning policies for the sustainable development of York
- identify land for housing, employment, infrastructure and environmental protection, where necessary
- address key issues including climate change, transport, heritage, green infrastructure and economic growth
- provide a framework for decision-making on planning applications
- incorporate the minerals and waste plan for the City of York

| Notice of proposed local plan consultation made available | July 2028 |
| Deadline for receipt of representations in response to proposed local plan consultation | August 2028 |
| Gateway 3: Observations and advice sought from the 'appointed person' on compliance of the proposed local plan with the prescribed requirements | October 2028 |
| Submission of the proposed local plan to the Secretary of State for independent examination | January 2029 |
| Adoption of the local plan | May 2029 |
