Temporary parking suspension terms and conditions
A minimum period of 21 days is required for the processing of all parking suspension applications.
If your application is not completed sufficiently, your application will be refused and you will need to submit a new application. This will extend the processing period and may require your works or event to be delayed.
Please note:
- A plan showing the specific location of the proposed prohibition of waiting is required before any request can be processed. Google Streetview plans are not acceptable. This must be an overhead plan showing:
- where you require the suspension to start and finish
- on which sides of the road the suspension is required
- Submitted plans may be shared with members of the public at the discretion of City of York Council. By submitting this application, you agree to this.
- You are required to conduct a mailshot of all properties that will be affected by the parking suspension a minimum of 7 days before the suspension is due to commence.
- This suspension is only enforceable if sufficient no waiting cones are put on the street to mark the suspended area. All cones should be placed on the highway against the kerbside in the areas to be suspended. City of York Council can provide no waiting cones for your suspension for a fee, or you can supply them for yourself.
- The arrangement fee for the council to arrange the supply of no-waiting cones is currently £250. This covers the initial placement and final removal of the no-waiting cones by suitably qualified operators. During the parking suspension, it is a requirement of the applicant to monitor no-waiting cone levels to ensure that an adequate number of cones remain in place, otherwise the suspension may become unenforceable. Any additional replacement no-waiting cones that are required are not included in the £250 arrangement fee but can be arranged by the council at an additional cost (price will be confirmed upon application). Contact the Highway Regulation Team to arrange the replacement of missing cones.
- The granting of this parking suspension also applies to vehicles related to your works. You are likely to receive a fixed penalty notice if you park in the suspended zone. If you need to park a vehicle within the suspended area then you must apply for a parking waiver. Contact the Highway Regulation Team to arrange this.
- Please ensure that you take care to complete the Temporary parking suspension application form accurately. City Of York Council cannot be held responsible for any losses (financial or otherwise) arising from the submission of inaccurate information, or for any omissions therein. Should you discover a mistake, please contact us on email: highway.regulation@york.gov.uk immediately, quoting your application reference number and explaining the error.
- We may be able to change the application for you, however if the legal notice has already been created you may need to resubmit your application which will incur additional costs. All amendment applications will be assessed in line with normal practice and may be refused if we are not comfortable with the changes proposed. There may be occasions where we aren’t able to amend a parking suspension request in time for the start date and time due to inadequate notice being given to allow for the legal process to be adhered to.
