How the Community Infrastructure Levy is spent
The Council collects developer contributions to fund necessary infrastructure as a result of development.
The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Regulations 2010 (as amended) require that the CIL monies collected will be used to provide infrastructure to support new development within the district. CIL funds can be used prioritised and pooled to pay for relevant infrastructure, where necessary.
The Infrastructure Delivery Plan (CSD9) identifies the essential infrastructure identified to support the growth envisaged in the Local Plan. CIL has to be spent on the provision of new infrastructure and should not be used to remedy pre-existing deficiencies unless those deficiencies will be made more severe by new development.
Of this:
- 5% can be used by us for the administration of CIL;
- either 15% (capped) or 25% of receipts accruing from development within the parish will be allocated to the relevant parish council; and
- remaining CIL monies will be allocated by us and used towards the provision of infrastructure across the district
We, as the charging authority, are responsible for making the final decision on the allocation of funding raised through the CIL. Further information on this will be made available in the coming months.
More information on previous developer contributions received and how we use them can be found in our Annual Infrastructure Funding Statements.
