City of York Council has published travel information for residents and visitors to assist them to get to the city centre and station in advance of upcoming road closures around York Station.
Work to finish the carriageway surfacing around York Station will start on 1 June and be carried out in four stages.
Details for the first three weeks have been confirmed and are available to view online.
Each section of the work has its own page with:
• Week 1 covering work between 1 June and 7 June
• Week 2 covering work between 8 and 12 June
• Week 3 covering work between 15 and 19 June
• Information for work taking place in week 4 between 22 and 26 June will follow
Information and advice on getting to the city centre is also available. With nighttime works set to get underway the council is asking residents and visitors to plan ahead. Both the city centre and Station are very much open for business.
Councillor Kate Ravilious, Executive Member for Transport said:
“We are now in the final stages of work on the carriageways and set to complete the area around the station.
“We are asking people to plan ahead over the coming weeks and have published detailed information for all modes of transport to help them get to the city centre and York Station.
“We are doing all that we can to minimise disruption, including detailed planning and sharing this information to help people to plan ahead. As with the previous Queen Street closures, we are encouraging everyone to plan their journey ahead and help reduce traffic congestion by using public transport, walking and cycling where possible.”
The station and nearby businesses will remain open.
Buses will continue to operate but some routes will be diverted as a result of the night closures. There will also be free shuttle buses running between Blossom Street and the station during the night closures.
Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout and the gates at Lowther Terrace will be open as usual for pedestrian and cycle access to and from the station.
The station long stay car park remains closed as Network Rail work on a new multi-storey car park.
