Our digital landscape is providing significant new opportunities for thousands of businesses based in the city and a better quality of life for our residents.

Our ambition is to make York the first truly ‘gigabit city’. Improved connectivity not only helps create new jobs and attract investment to the city, but also helps make York an enviable business destination and an even more desirable place to live.

CityFibre

CityFibre are undertaking a wide-scale construction project throughout York to expand the full fibre network to reach almost every premise in the city. The result is a future-proof broadband network that will provide huge and wide-ranging benefits to the entire community for years to come.

They’ll make every effort to minimise disruption wherever possible, working closely with the local authority, utilising modern construction techniques and constructing in footpaths where possible to avoid disrupting traffic flow. Although the build of a city-wide network can take years, the amount of time spent in any one road is likely to be just a few days. They will notify residents in advance of any construction planned to take place in streets via letter and social media – ensuring resident’s have the details needed of exactly what is happening and when.

To be kept up to date about when services will be made available, please register interest via CityFibre’s availability checker.
