Local amenities

Glen Lodge is situated in a pleasant green area, just off East Parade, in Heworth. It is a sheltered housing with extra care scheme.

The building resides just behind Glen Gardens bowling green and tennis courts, which extends around Glen Lodge to include a children’s play area and several projects being undertaken by the British Wildlife Trust. Local allotments are also very close by for those wanting to grow their own vegetables.

On East Parade there is a post office and local Co-Operative, hairdressers, fruit and flower shop and other businesses including a veterinary practice and Boots pharmacy.

There are two churches just 5 minutes away from Glen Lodge: Holy Trinity Heworth is on the junction of East Parade and Melrosegate, and Heworth Methodist church is located on Heworth Village.

The local GP surgery is East Parade Medical Practice, on East Parade.

East Parade also boasts very good bus routes to a variety of destinations, including York city centre, Scarborough, Whitby and Leeds.

For up-to-date information about local bus routes see the iTravel York website.

About

There are 57 flats in the main building and a further 12 bungalows around the back of the scheme, arranged in a small cul-de-sac.

There is access to all floors by lift and stairs (with stair lifts).

Some flats have balconies.

Some flats and bungalows have level access showers.

All flats and bungalows have a television socket, telephone point and have central heating installed.

All the flats are connected to the community alarm system.

All of the flats and bungalows are designed to 'Housing our Aging Population Panel for Innovation' (HAPPI) standards and best practice standards in dementia friendly environments.

Facilities

The building is fully covered by a fire alarm system with smoke detectors in all corridors. Flats are fitted with heat detectors and the bungalows are fitted with smoke alarms. There are lifts to all floors.

The gas central heating systems in the bungalows are serviced annually.

Outside there are two very pleasant, enclosed gardens, which catch the afternoon sun. There is a small green house for general use and seating areas are available. The gardens are divided into plots and tenants can claim an individual plot to plant and use how they wish.

Resident parking is available.

Tenant meetings

Tenants' meetings are held every two months so tenants can share ideas and thoughts on how to help make sure Glen Lodge suits the needs of everyone.

Glen Lodge is in the area covered by Heworth without Residents' Association. These meetings are held in various locations, and all tenants are welcome to attend and contribute at these meetings.
