Homeshare York matches an older homeowner, the Homeshare Householder, with a younger person, the Homeshare Homesharer.
Being a Homeshare Householder
Homeshare York can match you offer 10 hours' support a week in return for sharing your home. The cost to you is £100 a month.
A Homesharer could help with practical tasks such as:
- cleaning
- shopping
- gardening
You might just like someone to chat to or watch your favourite TV programme with.
A Homesharer can also provide:
- a reassuring overnight presence
- extra support to help you remain independent in your own home
In return you’d be offering accommodation to someone who's struggling to:
- get on the property ladder
- find affordable rental accommodation
You can be confident we can find the right person for you as we:
- conduct extensive vetting processes with all potential Homesharers
- support you at every stage of the match
- continue to support you throughout the process, to check everything's going well
Homeshare Householder eligibility
To be eligible to be a Homeshare Householder, you should be:
- aged 55 years or over
- living by yourself in York
- an owner of a suitable property including a spare bedroom that will be available throughout the duration of a match, usually for a period of at least 6 months or more
- someone who requires or would benefit from limited practical support in the home and/or companionship
- happy to share your home with another person (the Homeshare Homesharer) in exchange for them contributing 10 hours of support per week
- someone who does not require or receive personal care, for example help with bathing or dressing
- someone who is not in receipt of means-tested benefits
