Electricity is the preferred source of energy, rather than fossil fuels, as it can be produced from sources that do not release any carbon emissions.
The UK has a target to remove carbon-based sources of energy and carbon emissions from the UK’s energy supply by 2035. This brings forward by 15 years the government’s commitment to a fully decarbonised power system by 2050, set out in their Energy White Paper.
