Suspension of EU Settlement Scheme service
York Register Office are only currently able to provide statutory services, due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The EU Settlement Scheme service is therefore not available at this time.
The rights and status of EU citizens living in the UK will remain the same until 30 June 2021.

A letter for EU Citizens in York
We have written to every EU27 citizen in York who is identified on our electoral register, to make them aware of local support and advice with their settlement scheme applications.
If you are an EU27 citizen in York and have not yet received a letter, you can download the letter as this information applies to you.
Applying for settled status or pre-settled status
If you apply to the EU Settlement Scheme successfully, you’ll be able to continue living and working in the UK after 30 June 2021 with either 'settled status' or 'pre-settled' status.

The deadline for applying will be 30 June 2021, or 31 December 2020 if the UK leaves the EU without a deal.
You can apply using any device, for example a laptop, Android device or iPhone.
EU citizens can verify their identity at York Register Office
EU citizens who do not wish to send their documents by post or are not able to use the government’s ‘EU Exit: ID Document Check’ app, can make an appointment at York Register Office to have their ID documents scanned and verified, before applying to the EU Settlement Scheme.
Document scanning appointments are available:
- Mondays, from 1.00pm to 4.30pm
- Tuesdays, from 1.00pm to 4.30pm
Waiting times may vary.
Family groups are welcome to attend the same appointment.

At your appointment you must provide:
- a valid mobile telephone number (we'll need to send you an SMS text generated PIN number during the appointment in order to proceed)
- a valid email address (we'll need to send you an email with instructions on how to complete your application; you'll then complete your application yourself at a later time)
- a valid biometric passport (EU citizens)
- a biometric residence card (non-EU citizen family members)
We won't need to keep your identity document, and in most cases you won't be asked to send it anywhere else during your application.
Note: this service does not currently accept national identity cards.

Citizens Advice York will offer full help and support to applicants, including help in filling in the form and advice on issues which may arise during the application process.

EU Settlement Scheme appointments for large employers
Large employers can contact York Register Office to arrange appointments for groups of employees to have their documents scanned and verified at the workplace.
The workplace must have a good internet connection to enable this service.
