Blue Badge access consultation - Phase 1

The first phase of consultation focussed on the 5 principles that, if approved, will help shape an Executive report in October 2023.

  1. Return to previous access - to revert to the Blue Badge accessibility measures that were in place before November 2021.
  2. City centre events - some events may require Blue Badge access to be suspended at times (for example during the Christmas Markets)
  3. Recognising security risks - the Police will have power to lock down all access to the city centre using an Anti-Terrorism Traffic Regulation Order
  4. Finding solutions - if the Council Executive agrees to restore Blue Badge access through the new hostile vehicle barriers, then the council will work with badge holders on how to achieve this
  5. Longer term improvements - we're committed to considering and implementing longer-term improvements to accessibility in the city

All responses will be collated to inform a decision at the Council Executive meeting in October 2023.

The consultation closed on Monday 18 September 2023.

Blue Badge access consultation - Phase 2

Take part in the next phase of the consultation to restore access to York city centre for Blue Badge holders.

In the first phase, we asked Blue Badge holders and a wide range of stakeholders to comment on 5 key principles to guide the consultation. The results were shared with the Council’s Executive which agreed to restore access from Thursday 4 January 2024 via Goodramgate and after Easter 2024 via Blake Street.

We now asked you to look at how we can improve this access, and how we can develop proposals to make the city centre more accessible.

This consultation ended Sunday 4 February 2024.

Get involved in the wider consultation on the Local Transport Pan Strategy which has a theme on accessibility.

Keep in touch with consultation events by registering for council updates.
