A series of community drop-in sessions are being held in Haxby during November and early December. City of York Council is seeking opinions from locals about proposals to improve the village.
City of York Council is inviting people in Haxby to attend a series of community drop-in sessions to give their opinion on proposals to improve the village.
We’ve secured funding from the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Mayoral Investment Fund to work with businesses, community, and visitors to develop a pipeline of projects that enhance the vibrancy of the area.
Councillor Pete Kilbane, Executive member for Economy and Culture said:
We've had a number of very positive conversations with local residents previously and have identified some areas which could be improved within existing funding available.
Works in scope include repairing the bandstand mosaic at Ethel Ward playing field, increasing the number of public benches, reviewing opportunities along The Village to enhance the village’s character and address concerns such as parking on The Green, and identifying a quiet cycle route off the main road. If agreed, these could be delivered in 2027.
As well as this first phase of improvements, the Council is looking to create a longer-term plan for projects aligned to the future housing and rail station developments.
Councillor Kilbane added: "Our aim is to have a pipeline of future projects part designed and ready for when any future funding opportunities arise. We want to get this right so make sure you have your say."
