This civic year 2017 to 2018, the Lord Mayor and Sheriff are supporting three local charities:
The Lord Mayor has chosen Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, a charity which offers greater independence, confidence and companionship to deaf people by training dogs to alert them to everyday household sounds and danger signals in the home, work place and in public buildings.
As an animal lover the Lord Mayor has also chosen Keep Your Pet, a free service provided by volunteers through Age UK York supported by RSPCA York that offers the elderly and vulnerable emergency and short term support for their pets. So, if something unexpected happens everyone is well taken care of.
The Lord Mayor has also selected Refugee Action York who work with with refugees, asylum seekers and migrants from within and around the City of York. They provide a safe meeting point where people can learn seek information and support, learn new skills and languages and form lasting friendships.
