No access for vehicles at York Christmas Market 2025
An urgent report was taken to a meeting of the Executive on Tuesday 7 October, following a formal recommendation from the Chief Constable of North Yorkshire Police that the council implements a temporary Anti-Terrorism Traffic Regulation Order (ATTRO), for the period of the York Christmas Market 2025 (Thursday 13 November to Friday 21 December).
“That recommendation was accepted and approved in line with the Chief Constable’s request, that there will be no access for vehicles beyond the hostile vehicle measures (barriers) between 10.00am to 7.00pm. As part of this decision, the Executive agreed to receive another report in the coming weeks with options for mitigation measures, including analysis of risk, for the different groups previously permitted vehicular access to the Christmas Market area.
“We will now need to work at pace with the Police and event organisers on the implications of the ATTRO. And we’ll be contacting those who may be affected, either by the ATTRO or any mitigations measures in response to it, with further information as soon as we can.”
