UK Shared Prosperity Fund

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is designed to build pride in place, strengthen community ties and support the local business community as part of the government’s Levelling Up agenda.

York has been allocated £5,507,510 to spend over 3 years to March 2025.

The funding must be spent on 3 investment priorities:

  1. Local Businesses programmes - Improving both the numbers of jobs and the productivity of existing businesses, for example by providing investment in small businesses, creating opportunities for networking and collaboration, or helping to upgrade to energy-efficient technologies.
  2. Communities and Place programmes - Mostly aimed at improving community infrastructure and investing in neighbourhoods, for example by improving town centres and reducing crime.
  3. People and Skills programmes - The largest part of which is the Multiply programme to promote adult numeracy. Other aspects could include employment support programmes, adult learning, or other skills provision.

£741,291 has been specifically allocated for the Department for Education’s Multiply adult numeracy programme, and the People and Skills awards will take place as the final phase in year 3 of the programme.
