Trading Standards officers provide advice and information to local businesses to help ensure they comply with trading standards legislation. Basic advice is available from our officers free of charge.

These are formally recognised partnerships backed by law. We'll work with you to ensure legal compliance in everything you do. You'll have a single-point of contact and can legally rely on the written assured advice you receive.

All regulators must discuss any proposed enforcement with us which we may block if it is inconsistent with our advice. The partnerships cover all aspects of local authority regulation including:

Printing Law

This guidance provides information to businesses offering print services to traders. Specifically the production of trader leaflets intended to be made available to consumers for the purpose of promoting services commonly for property maintenance or gardening work.

Legislation: Printers Imprint Act 1961

There is a requirement for printers to

  • include a Printers Imprint, the name and address of your business - this must appear on the leaflets that you produce
  • retain copies - the legislation requires you to retain a copy of the printed material for 6 months
  • retain customer details - you must obtain contact details from your customer and retain these for a minimum of 6 months

Should an incident of doorstep crime occur involving a leaflet you have produced, an authorised officer from your local Trading Standards may require you to disclose the customer contact details for the purposes of the detection and/or prevention of crime.
