If we're notified of any navigation issues affecting the River Ouse or the River Foss, we'll update the information on this page.

Temporary closure of Foss Navigation

The Environment Agency (EA) are undertaking a survey and inspection of the Foss Barrier in readiness for work to be carried out next year. As a result the Foss Navigation will be closed for a 2 week period from the week commencing 5 August 2019. There will be no access into the Foss Basin during this time.

Following the survey, the EA are to carry out works to the barrier, which will involve the width through the barrier being reduced to 4.5 metres. This work will commence on 19 August and will last for a 4 week period.

Both City of York Council and The Environment Agency apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
