Tree donations and memorials
Help offset CO2 production and protect York's precious tree heritage by making a donation towards planting a tree.
We'll try to match your preferred location and tree species and assist you with your decision.
The minimum donation for a personally owned tree is £200, the exact cost will depend on the species of tree chosen.
Tree planting season
Tree planting season is between December and March. Donations received between April and November will allow us to plant in the next planting season. Donations received between December and March will be held over to the following year's buying and planting season.
Daffodil donations and memorials
Springtime is celebrated in York by a magnificent display of daffodils on the Bar Walls and parks.
When you donate, you can specify on which part of the walls or in which park you would like us to plant your daffodils, subject to the agreement of the Public Realm Operations Manager. Please note that Cliffords Tower is not managed by City of York Council and we cannot arrange planting on this site.
The minimum donation of £35 will pay for 250 bulbs.
Daffodil planting season
Planting season is between October and November. Requests made after the middle of September will be carried over to the following year's buying and planting season.
Bench and bench plaque donations and memorials
Benches can be located at a range of sites including:
- Rowntree Park
- Glen Gardens
- Clarence Gardens
- Hull Road Park
- West Bank Park
- Rawcliffe Lake
- York riverside
All benches are robust and easy to maintain and, depending on the site chosen, made to complement their location.
The minimum donation is £675 for a bench (the exact price will be confirmed upon application), which includes a brass plaque engraved with brief details of the donation.
Should you wish to donate a bench for Rowntree Park, the minimum donation is £1200 (the exact price will be confirmed upon application). This is to cover the cost of a made-to-order bench and delivery to york, which meets Heritage Lottery Fund criteria, as any new bench has to match existing benches within this park.
Alternatively, you may consider purchasing a brass plaque to be installed on an existing bench at a cost of £75.
