Housing Services domestic abuse support

We believe that as a local authority and housing provider, we are best placed to recognise and respond to domestic abuse.

We want to reassure our residents, tenants, leaseholders, and members that any concerns they raise will be met with an empathetic and appropriate response.

If you're a City of York Council tenant, you could be supported with the following:

  • be provided with relevant advice and help, including victims’ rights and options to remain in your home where it is safe and your wish to do so
  • support and advice around legal orders, such as a Non-Molestation Order or Occupation Order
  • if appropriate and suitable, support with additional security measures within your home
  • if there is immediate or near-future fear for safety, support around a managed move
  • signposting or referrals to domestic abuse specialist support

If you're a resident of York, which could include private renting, homeowner or other social housing, you could be supported with the following:

  • if there is immediate or near-future fear for safety, support in considering options such as a homeless application, refuge or temporary accommodation
  • support and advice around legal orders, such as a Non-Molestation Order or Occupation Order
  • signposting or referrals to domestic abuse specialist support
  • advice and signposting to all, including those that may not be eligible for housing assistance
