Holiday Activities and Food

A range of holiday activity schemes are available for children and young people in York this summer.

The sessions include a variety of fun activities, including sports, music, arts and other exciting opportunities to learn and develop skills, alongside a nutritious meal each day. They are being provided to targeted children as part of the government’s expanded Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme which is being delivered across the City of York area.

To book a place, contact HAF programme providers directly. Eligible children will then be able to choose from the activities below or choose to take up a place up at other registered holiday clubs, subject to availability.

Arts Award Discover in a Day with York Theatre Royal

Age: 7 to 11 years
Venue: Clifton Moor Church Hall, YO30 4WD
Date: 10 August and 12 August (child may only book for one day)
Time: 10:00am to 3:00pm
Price: Free to those in receipt of free school meals benefit

  • Discover: find out about different art forms and take part in two creative activities – drama and craft
  • Find out: interview a member of our creative team from Around the World in 80 Days to see what it takes to be a professional theatre-maker
  • Share: reflect on your day and what you have learnt and discovered with your peers

On completing the day, you will sent an Arts Award Discover certificate.

Arts Award Discover in a Day with York Theatre Royal

Age: 7 to 11 years

Date: 17, 18, 19 August (child may only book for one day)

Price: Free to those in receipt of free school meals benefit

Venue: St Nicks Environment Centre, Rawdon Avenue, York, YO10 3FW
Date: 28 July, 5, 12, 19, 26 August, 3 September
Time: 10:00am to 12:00pm plus stay for lunch afterwards
Price: Fully funded places available

Come and explore the different habitats at St Nicks, play games, build dens, make nature crafts and learn how to look after the environment as part of our Green Influencers project. Option for self-led activities after the guided session with lunch included. Our sessions are fully risk assessed and Covid secure. Parental consent needed.

Door84 - Mondays!
Various arts, crafts, cookery, sports and games

Time: 5:00pm to 7:30pm
Price: £1.00 (Free for FSM eligible children)

Our on-site session will involve an opportunity for young people to take part in a wide variety of sports and games, arts, crafts, cooking and learning new skills. Come and try various activities including football, KMX bikes, dodgeball, rounders. Basketball, den building, giant snakes and ladders and other team games. During each Monday session either a cooked meal or nutritious buffet will be available to all booked on attendees free of charge.

Door 84 Picnic in the Park!

Price: £1.00 (Free for FSM eligible children)

Our off-site session will involve an opportunity for young people to take part in a wide variety of sports and games, arts, crafts and learning new skills. Come and try various activities including football, dodgeball, rounders. Basketball, den building and other team games. Or take part in arty crafty activities such as learning how to do glitter tattoos in the fresh air. During each Monday Park session, a packed lunch will be available to all booked on attendees free or charge.

Door84 - Tuesdays - Ready Steady Cook!

Our on-site session will focus on cooking healthy meals on a budget for children to both eat together as a group and take home their new skills, recipe ideas and knowledge. They can also come and try various activities including football, KMX bikes, dodgeball, rounders. Basketball, den building, giant snakes and ladders and other team games. During each Tuesday session either a cooked meal or nutritious buffet will be available to all attendees free of charge.

Door84 Wednesdays!
Experience More Sessions!

Age: 8 to 16 years
Venue: Door 84 Youth and Community Centre, YO31 7LX
Date: 28 July (running for 6 weeks every Wednesday)
Time: 5:00pm to 7:30pm
Price: £1.00 (Free for FSM eligible children)

Our on-site session will involve an opportunity for young people to take part in a wide variety of experience. This session will include a climbing wall, first aid training, a visit from the fire brigade and much more! Due to the nature of some of these activities it will be most suitable for young people over the age of 12 years. However, spaces for children outside of this age group may be considered based on individual circumstances. During each Wednesday session either a cooked meal or nutritious buffet will be available to all attendees free of charge.

Door84 - Family Fridays
Family Café Drop in Various arts, crafts, cookery sessions, sports and games.

Age: 0 to 17 years – Parents/ Carers to accompany

Café and parental advice also available ranging from welfare benefits, training and employment or managing the demands of parenting from birth to teens!

Our on-site session will involve an opportunity for parents and carers along with their children and young people to take part in a wide variety of games, arts, crafts, cooking and learning new skills. Come and try various activities that may not be so practical at home. Including den building, giant snakes and ladders and team games. During each Friday morning family session will include a cooked brunch style meal. sandwiches or breakfast style buffet which will be available to all children free of charge and “Pay as you feel” for adults.

Door84 Upskill Sessions!

Age: 8 to 17 years
Venue: Door 84 Youth and Community Centre, YO31 7LX
Date: 30 July (running for 6 weeks every Friday)
Time: 10:00am to 12:00pm
Price: Free to all

Our on-site session will involve an opportunity for children and young people to learn valuable practical life skills. The session aim will be to help improve the building and garden areas of the Centre. This will involve children and young people learning and practicing practical skills such as painting, basic woodwork, gardening, upcycling and general life skills such as safely preparing and serving food amongst others. During each Friday morning session will include a free cooked brunch style meal, sandwiches or buffet style breakfast items which will be available to all attendees.

Future Knights Holiday Camps

Age: For children 5 years and up
Venue: Various sites across the city! Sites include Woodthorpe, Bishopthorpe, Tang Hall, Wheldrake, Heworth, Clifton, Haxby, Strensall, Fulford, Acomb, Huntington and Dringhouses to name but a few!

The York City Knights Foundation are set for their busiest summer ever, delivering over 60 FREE sessions in and around York. Our aim with these sessions is to not only encourage activity and promote ruby league around the city, but to also provide some fun and enjoyment for children after what has been a very difficult and trying year. The activities will range from inflatable sessions, mobile skatepark sessions, rugby sessions and multi sports sessions. All events are free, with the exception of our day camps in York. Free food and drink will be distributed at all events. Speedkix Summer Camps

Total Sports run two activities dependent upon what your children like to do:

  1. Total Energy is very popular! Why? Because it is all the exciting activities you would want to do with your friends to make it a great day. Age related activities that change every hour. Inflatables, Treasure Hunts, Party Games, Dodgeball, Water Pistols, Tag Games, Chasing Games, Free Play, Team Games and much more. We work in Primary Schools during term time teaching PE and Sports, so we hope we are able to bring experience, fun and a fantastic inclusive day to all children. Come and join us!
  2. Total Football is everything you would expect in a football day; football skills, drills and match day thrills all day! A chance to work on your technique and skills, a chance to be involved in challenge and games every day too. With our super coaches you will have a great day and improve as a footballer too. It is for children of all abilities.

Players should wear suitable comfortable clothing and footwear for all activities, taking into account the nature of the venue. Rainwear, suncream and sunhat may be required and should be worn/provided for the young player.
