At birth, families are offered the opportunity of a screening test of their baby’s hearing in hospital. At the time of diagnosis of deafness a referral can be made, by audiology, to the Deaf and Hearing Support team. Support from the Deaf and Hearing Support Team is ongoing in line with families wishes.
We measure the outcomes through formal and informal assessments of functional listening skills, language development and literacy skills, tracking progress through time and feeding back regularly to the child, families, settings and other agencies. We also contribute to regular review meetings, annual reviews, FEHA meetings, My Plan meetings and TAC meetings.
We work with colleagues in education settings and other professionals to offer advice and support throughout the child’s education.
We also signpost families to other organisations, both locally and nationally, that can provide information and support.
Families who are receiving support from our team will have the contact details of their child’s Teacher of the Deaf for any queries.
