Navigation issues on York's rivers

We'll update this page if we're aware of any navigation issues affecting the River Ouse or the River Foss.

Temporary closure of Foss Navigation

The Environment Agency are undertaking the replacement of the Foss Barrier. As a result the Foss Navigation will be closed from the week commencing 6 July until 31 August 2020. There will be no access into the Foss Basin during this time.

Both City of York Council and The Environment Agency apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

River Foss - temporary restriction to navigation

We're are undertaking refurbishment works to Blue Bridge at the entrance to Foss Basin, which will involve the lifting out of the bridge and erection of a temporary scaffold replacement. As a result there will be restricted access to the Foss Navigation. This will be in force from Monday 18 May until Monday 13 July 2020.
