Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks

If you want to work as a chaperone, you will need to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) form. Please contact us for a form, which is unavailable online as each form is registered to an applicant.

Although we do not charge for registering as a chaperone, we do charge a fee for each DBS application. For paid chaperones this is £68 and for unpaid chaperones or volunteers this is £24.

Portable DBS Checks

DBS checks or disclosures for all other employers or roles are not valid or transferable, unless you have previously made an enhanced DBS check in your name portable, that is registered with the DBS Update Service. If you have done this, as there will be no new DBS check, there will be no charge.

We recommend that all new chaperones make their DBS portable after being registered to reduce future and/or repeat DBS costs. This must be done after completing a DBS form, and by no later than 19 days after the disclosure issue date. See more information on making your DBS portable.

DBS checks often take 6-9 weeks. Track your DBS with your application reference.
