Support for elected councillors
We provide a range of support to help newly elected council members to:
- get up to speed with their duties
- manage home and work commitments
- represent their ward
See information for newly elected members from Local Government Association; a huge range of support is available, from weekend events, to networking where councillors can meet other newly elected members or more experienced councillors. In addition, your chosen political group will also provide support.
Member induction programme
We run a comprehensive Councillor Induction Programme, which includes training and development sessions in-person and/or by video to watch at your convenience.
On election day, newly elected councillors receive a Member Welcome Pack with information covering local, regional and national policy, and what members can and can’t do.
Newly elected councillors are also invited to attend the first induction day for an oversight of the council, to meet key officers, and to get set-up with ICT Device Pack and West Offices access.
