The government's 'Levelling up' White Paper
The Government’s White Paper was published on Wednesday 2 February 2022.
It sets out the principles, proposals and measures the Government will use to guide policy and decision-making over the next few years.
It also contained a specific commitment to agreeing the Mayoral Combined Authority deal for York and North Yorkshire.
This allowed us and other North Yorkshire authorities to work with the Government on what the proposed devolution deal would look like and when it will happen.
As part of the devolution process, residents and businesses had the opportunity to comment on the proposals. We've said all along that any devolution deal must be right for York, so consultation with businesses and residents will be an important feature moving forward.
