Short breaks and holidays for carers

A number of organisations in York can help you take some time off from your caring role by offering information, advice and support.

These organisations can also signpost you to other services you may need.

Short breaks services include:

  • sitting services where somebody sits with the person you care for, to allow you some time for yourself
  • group meetings with other carers or events and activities for carers
  • support for the person you care for when you go away

You could also be eligible for a short break through a direct payment or personal budget as part of the person you care for through social care needs assessment or through a carer's assessment from York Carers Centre.
