Ousewem flood resilience project

Ousewem logo

We are proud to lead Ousewem, an innovative flood resilience project.

The Ousewem project is an integrated, catchment-scale, long-term approach to safeguarding our North Yorkshire communities.

Ousewem involves exploring the potential of:

  • nature-based solutions (NbS)
  • natural flood management (NFM)
  • land management changes

Spanning the rivers Swale, Ure, Nidd and Ouse (SUNO) catchment areas, Ouswem sees us working in close collaboration with North Yorkshire Council alongside our delivery partners and numerous local catchment partners.

The Ousewem project is funded by the government's Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), as part of the £200 million Flood and Coastal Innovation Programmes, managed by the Environment Agency, to drive innovation in flood and coastal resilience, and adaptation to a changing climate.
