Disclosure and Barring Service checks

If you want to work as a chaperone, you will need to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service check - commonly known as a DBS Check.

This can now be done online with GBG Online Disclosures. You will need to contact us first so that we can supply you with an Organisation PIN and password in order to enable your registration.

Although we do not charge you for registering as a chaperone, there is a fee for each DBS application. For paid chaperones this is £49, and for unpaid chaperones or volunteers this is £5.

Portable DBS checks

DBS checks or disclosures held for all other employers or roles are not valid or transferable. However, if you hold a 'portable' enhanced DBS check registered with the DBS update service, you will not need to complete a new DBS check.

Please note that the DBS update service costs £13 per year, however there's no charge if you're a volunteer.

We recommend that all new chaperones apply for a 'portable' DBS after registering to reduce future and/or repeat DBS costs. You should do this after completing your DBS check and no later than 19 days after your disclosure issue date.

See more information on making your DBS 'portable'.
