In November and December 2017 we asked for your views on Castle Gateway ideas; a range of plans which reflected what people love, value and want to change in the Castle Gateway area. The deadline for formal feedback has passed, but you can take a look at the Castle Gateway Masterplan and join the conversation via social media.

In order to help you explore Castle Gateway ideas we divided the area into 5 main spaces:
Key Castle Gateway ideas to consider
Four ideas would be key to regenerating the Castle Gateway area, creating new, high quality public spaces and making improvements to the transport network:
- new uses for Castle Car Park
- locations for alternative car parking at either St George's Field or Castle Mills
- a new riverside walk along the River Foss
- a new building on the rear of the Coppergate Shopping Centre
The My Castle Gateway project put people, and how they want to use the area, at the centre of the master-planning process. It also made sure that people understand the challenges and realities of regenerating the area.
It's important to remember what needs to be considered alongside public views:
- the plan will have to be in line with planning rules including national, local and heritage policies
- the plan will have to be realistic and affordable
- any expensive new public spaces need to be funded by other new developments in the area
- we would also have to replace any income loses if car parks are removed
