As part of your taxi drivers' safeguarding and knowledge training and test you'll be asked the shortest route in distance between 2 locations from a list of 4 possible answers.
Examples of locations include:
- York universities (various parts of their campus), the city’s colleges and schools
- bar walls and bridges
- popular restaurants, pubs, nightclubs and hotels
- the hospital, doctor’s surgeries, ambulance service and fire stations
- places of worship
- major employers’ offices and factories
- the city’s railway station and park and ride sites
- all major tourist attractions, cinemas and theatres
- caravan sites
- residential care homes
- student accommodation
- major sporting venues, community sports grounds and leisure centres
- courts and police stations
- city centre shops, supermarkets and out-of-town shopping centres
- banks, building societies and post offices
- all council premises, libraries, community centres and well-known meeting venues
- parks and greens
- popular wedding venues
In addition to finding your way between these venues, some of which are in outlying suburbs and villages, you'll also be asked to name the streets on which places are located.
Additionally, the tests include questions on the pedestrian zone as well as ‘no entry’ streets and one-way streets.
