On 5 August 2026, York Magistrates ordered the owner of an uncontrolled and un-microchipped Akita dog to pay £1,056.
Mr Luke Jamieson (aged 34) of Woodlea Avenue, Acomb, York allowed the dog to stray and to act aggressively even after Council warnings and formal notices to control the dog.
At York Magistrates’ Court on 5 August 2026, the court heard complaints dating back to late 2024.
The dog, named Kai, repeatedly escaped and strayed, causing fear and fouling in the area without the owner keeping him under control.
On 7 January 2026, Kai jumped from a van and was witnessed attacking another dog in the street.
Mr Jamieson also failed to update the dog’s microchip details. He didn’t attend any interviews under caution or otherwise assist Council officers during the investigation.
Mr Jamieson pleaded guilty to 2 offences: failing to microchip his dog and failing to comply with a Community Protection Notice requiring him to keep his dog under control at all times. The dog’s microchip details were finally updated on 4 August 2026
York Magistrates fined Mr Jamieson £160 for the offences, and ordered him to pay a surcharge of £64 and a contribution to prosecution costs of £832. This totalled £1,056.
Cllr Anna Perrett, Executive Member for Community Safety at City of York Council said:
“This person repeatedly ignored the law and his responsibilities as a dog owner, and so put others’ at risk.
“Thank you to everyone who reported their concerns and who have worked with us to ensure residents’ safety.”
