City of York Council will once again show its support for LGBTQIA+ communities by taking part in York Pride, celebrating diversity and promoting inclusion across the city.
Council teams will have a strong and visible presence at York Pride, taking place on Saturday 30 May, where thousands of residents and visitors are expected to come together for the annual celebration of equality, community and visibility.
Throughout the event, a range of council services will be on hand to engage with residents, provide advice and highlight support available across the city. Teams will share information on local services, community initiatives, and wellbeing support, helping people connect with the resources they need.
Popular features from previous years will return, including opportunities for residents to speak directly with council representatives, alongside interactive activities and information stands from services such as fostering and adoption. Health and wellbeing teams will also be present, offering guidance and support to attendees.
Councillor Katie Lomas, Executive Member for Finance, Performance, Major Projects, Human Rights, Equality and Inclusion, said:
“York Pride is a fantastic celebration that brings together residents and visitors to recognise and celebrate the diversity of our city. It’s a moment of visibility, solidarity and joy, but also an important reminder of the ongoing work needed to ensure equality for all.
“We remain committed, as a council, to providing inclusive services and to supporting LGBTQIA+ residents, communities and organisations throughout the year.
“Whether you’re part of the LGBTQIA+ community or an ally, Pride is for everyone. We look forward to seeing people from across York come together once again in 2026.”
The council continues to work with partners and community organisations to ensure York is a safe, respectful and inclusive city. This includes its ongoing commitment to equality, diversity and human rights across all services and decision-making.
Residents are encouraged to join the celebrations, support local organisations and take part in the wide range of activities planned throughout the day.
Blue Badge parking during York Pride
There will be some changes to Blue Badge parking in York on 30 May to allow the Pride parade to pass safely through the city centre.
To allow the Parade to pass, the temporary barrier at Blake Street will close from 11:50am until 12:45pm. The Goodramgate barrier will also be closed due to the extended works in King’s Square.
During those times, Blue Badge holders can park on Blake Street and Lendal only. It will not be possible to park in St Helen’s Square.
Blue Badge parking remains available on Duncombe Place, Piccadilly and in our city centre car parks.
