Watch the parade

The route is 2 kilometers long; you're advised to 'use the length of the route' - there are no dedicated viewing areas.

We are not able to provide specific accessible viewing areas, but have made the parade a long route to allow as many people as possible to watch it.

We recommend those uncomfortable in large crowds choose a less congested location along the route which is away from major landmarks, or choose a wider street where there is more space to move around.

We also urge fans lining the route to be courteous to families, older people and those with access needs.

Please note, there will be no toilets provided on the route. However, our local public toilets will remain open later.

Travel and parking

The key thing for Thursday 7 May is to plan your journey in advance. Rolling road closures along the route will be short term to allow the parade to pass.

You're strongly advised to stay local and walk or cycle if possible.

If you're using public transport, please check the latest timetables and allow extra journey time. Visit the iTravel York website for the latest travel advice, to help you plan your trip.

We strongly advise you do not drive towards parts of the parade route, particularly into the city centre, and ask fans to either walk or try and view the parade as close to home as possible.

Parking will be available at car parks around the city and St Georges Field Car Park for the Eye of York. Blue Badge holders will have access to part of Castle Car Park.

Parade and spectator safey

The use of flares, pyrotechnics, or anything similar is strictly prohibited as they poses risk of injury.

No drones are allowed on the parade route. Any unauthorised drones on the parade route will be removed.

We’re asking parents, carers and guardians to take a photograph of children they're accompanying before attending the parade. Should you become separated, this will help identify them quickly; please alert your nearest steward or member of North Yorkshire Police immediately. There will be a 'lost and found person' facility within the first aid area at The Eye of York.

Stewards will be distributing wristbands to attach to a child or vulnerable person, on which you can write the telephone number of a responsible adult.

Information for businesses and residents

We will liaise with businesses and residents along the route to make sure they're aware of the parade and the impact it may have.
