The council is pleased to announce the results of the recent online election for York’s representatives in the UK Youth Parliament.

Following a strong turnout from young people across the city, Will has been elected as York’s new Member of Youth Parliament (MYP), with William chosen as Deputy Member of Youth Parliament (DMYP).

The roles include representing York’s young people locally, regionally, and nationally, including at the annual sitting of Youth Parliament in the House of Commons in Parliament, Westminster.

Executive Member for Children, Young People and Education, Councillor Bob Webb, said: “It is really exciting to see the passion and commitment shown by young people across York throughout this election. Will and William will bring fresh perspectives, energy and a strong sense of responsibility to their roles, and we look forward to supporting them as they champion the voices of young people both locally and nationally.”

Will, Member of Youth Parliament (MYP), said: “Thank you to everyone that voted in the MYP Election, it was great to see so many young people getting involved in Youth Politics. I am really excited to continue my work as MYP for the next 2 years where I, DMYP William and the rest of York Youth Council will be able to create a lot of great change for the young people in our city. I am looking forward to getting started immediately!”

William, Deputy Member of Youth Parliament, said: "Thank you to everyone who voted in the election and used your voice. In my role as Deputy Member of Youth Parliament I’ll be supporting Youth Council in their continued efforts to improve the lives of young people in York"

Will won with his 5-point manifesto for York:

  1. By working with the Director of Public Health for York, tackle the problem of youth Vaping in York.
  2. Work so that all young people know where they can find reliable information on Mental Health services and Youth Clubs available for them in the City
  3. Work to have better lit streets across the City to ensure all young people feel safe when walking in the dark
  4. Ensure the success of the first York Youth Fest is backed up via organising at least 3 more during the 2026/27 Term.
  5. Secure a bank account/proper budget for Youth Council for the future

York Youth Council will maintain strong links with the MYP and DMYP and the Communities Team at City of York Council will continue to support both Will and William during their 2026-2028 terms
