With October marking the second anniversary of the formation of the York Green Business Forum the group are celebrating by hosting their upcoming event focussing on energy bills.
The event is taking place as part of York Environment Festival 2025, and aims to help businesses across the city tackle their energy bills and learn how to cut carbon to cut costs. Taking place on Tuesday 21 October at 9:30am, attendees will hear from energy industry experts from Northern Powergrid and York Community Energy, and have the opportunity to take part in workshops and networking.
Cllr Pete Kilbane, Executive Member for Economy and Culture, said
York is home to an incredible range of innovative businesses, and the Green Business Forum is just one of the ways local businesses can find expert support and guidance to help them grow and develop, whatever their sector or services might be.
"Every business can benefit from operating in a more sustainable way and these free events have helped hundreds of businesses to improve their practises.”
Since their formation in 2022, the Green Business Forum have helped more than 200 businesses to reduce their carbon emissions, future-proof their operations and improve their overall sustainability by connecting them with experts and industry professionals.
The forum hosts multiple events each year, open to businesses operating in any sector, to hear expert advice on achieving sustainability related goals, and to network with other business leaders and discuss key topics.
Cllr Jenny Kent, Executive Member for Environment and Climate Emergency, said:
Energy bills are a huge part of operating costs for many businesses, and recent years have seen prices rise for many.
"We have already provided decarbonisation plans for 63 businesses in York and launched a £1.3m grant programme with the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority and North Yorkshire Council to support businesses in delivering environmental and financial benefits.
We hope that this event will help businesses of any size to reduce their energy bills, allowing them to spend more time and budget on growing their businesses and developing their products and services.”
Places are free and can be booked online, and anyone interested in hearing about upcoming events from the Green Business Forum can sign up to the council’s Climate Change updates.
