Two children’s social workers from City of York Council have been nominated for national awards.

Rhianna Gallagher, has been nominated for the Children and Families Social Worker Award at The National Childrens & Young People’s Awards for her work with disabled children.

The awards celebrate excellence in care for children, young people and families, showcasing innivation and best practice and pay tribute to those who excel in qulaity care provision.

Rhianna was nominated for her work to support a complex young person in care. Her dedication, professionalism, and genuine care were highlighted as part of the award submission, noting the significant impact her work had on the young person.

Toby Spaxman has made the finals of the newly qualified social worker of the year category at the National Social Work Awards.

The shortlist, which features 100 outstanding practitioners, teams and organisations in 18 categories, was chosen by an independent judging panel made up of social workers, industry leaders and people with lived experience of social work and care.

In the award application Toby was described as a ‘tenacious, kind, and highly motivated social worker who consistently goes above and beyond to ensure that children and their families feel safe, supported, and respected’.

Toby said:

It’s such a privilege to be able to support children and families at a time when they need help the most.

Cllr Bob Webb, the council’s Executive Member for Children, Young People and Education, said:

I’m delighted that two members of our children’s social work team have been nominated for national awards, and to be recognised for their work so early in their careers is an outstanding achievement.

"Our social workers are the heart and soul of the work we do for children and their families and I'm really proud that these nominations really reflect the hard work and commitment across our teams."

The nominations top off a fantastic few months for City of York Council’s Children’s Services team, with an Ofsted inspection earlier this year seeing them rated as Outstanding in all areas.
