Two new self-build plots available on Dane Avenue

Published Friday, 9 February 2024

In response to the need for more homes in York and following the success of Lowfield Green’s six self-build plots which featured on Channel 4's Grand Designs, the Council is offering two more plots.

These plots are to support people get on the housing ladder by building their own homes. Both are on Dane Avenue, Acomb, where outline planning permission for one detached house per plot has been secured.

Previously, the site was occupied by a pair of semi-detached 'British and Iron Foundation' council houses and is now clear, ready for construction.

All necessary utilities can be connected from the adjacent road and plot buyers will need to apply for new service connections from the relevant providers.

Each home must have a minimum of two bedrooms with maximum gross internal areas of 106 metres square (plot 1) and 114 metres square (plot 2).

To guide and support buyers and their architects, an approved design code has been developed which encourages building lower-carbon homes.

Cllr Michael Pavlovic, Executive Member for Housing, Planning and Safer Communities said,

These two plots present an opportunity to build two high-quality homes. We know there is considerable demand for well-serviced self-build plots and here, at Dane Avenue, is a chance to add to a thriving community and create two new homes for present and future households to enjoy.

The council's Self Build team will provide support and guidance to those interested, from the registration process through construction until the homes are ready for moving in.
