Description

This former clay workings is the one of the 5 remaining flooded brick pits in York. The pond is well stocked with a variety of coarse fish species and has 11 fishing platforms.

You will need an Environment Agency rod licence and an annual Chapman's Pond permit. Application forms for permits can be obtained from the site.

Annual fishing permits cost:

  • Free for under 12's
  • £10.00 for juniors (aged 12-16)
  • £30.00 for adults

The pond is surrounded by meadow grassland and scrub woodland.

Management

Management of the site is provided by Chapman's Pond Community Interest Company who arrange the bailiff service together with conservation days and occasional events.

There is a bus stop adjacent to the local café on Moor Lane, routes 12 and 37.

The nearest council car park is Moor Lane car park (approximately 10-minutes away, on foot), with parking available at £4.00 per day (flat rate/minimum charge).
