Young people having their say

Young People can have their voices heard by getting involved with a range of services and groups.

York Youth Council

York Youth Council is a group of young people aged 11 to 18 that represents the voice and views of young people across the city. York Youth Council works with the council on campaigns to help make York a better place for young people.

If you’re interested in becoming a member of the Youth Council, please contact yorkyouthcouncil@york.gov.uk.

School Councils

School Councils operate in both primary and secondary schools across York. The idea is that children and young people are elected to be on the school council who then meet to discuss school ideas, community issues or projects. If you would like to get involved in your school council ask one of your teachers how to get involved.

Rights and Advocacy service

For children and young people who are looked after by the City of York, the Rights and Advocacy service is here to help you get your views across; both in relation to decisions about your life as well as the decisions that affect all children and young people in care in York. Visit Speak Up York – Children’s Rights and Advocacy Service .
