Young people having their say

There are lots of different ways that you can get involved! It could be finding an activity you like, volunteering or having your voice heard. Use our online form if you've got something you just want to say!

YorOK board

YorOK is the most senior partnership of everybody who works with children and young people in York, including schools and colleges. The YorOK Board makes sure that all of its members really are working together in the best interests of families and children. They meet regularly to talk about important things to do with children, young people and families.

So it is really important that children and young people can join in and take part in these important meetings. If you would like to know more about how you can get your voice heard at the YorOK Board, contact us through the YorOK website.

York Youth Council

York Youth Council is a group of young people aged 11-18 that represents the voice and views of young people across the city. York Youth Council works with the council on campaigns to help make York a better place for young people.

If you’re interested in becoming a member of the Youth Council, please contact yorkyouthcouncil@york.gov.uk.

Volunteering

Volunteering is a great way of making a difference. As a volunteer your contribution is greatly appreciated – many organisations couldn’t run without volunteers. The YorZone website has lots of helpful information about volunteering opportunities for young people. From gardening to cheering marshall for the Yorkshire Marathon, you can find many opportunities here!

School Councils

School Councils operate in both primary and secondary schools across York. The idea is that children and young people are elected to be on the school council who then meet to discuss school ideas, community issues or projects. If you would like to get involved in your school council ask one of your teachers how to get involved.

Rights and Advocacy service

For children and young people who are looked after by the City of York, the Rights and Advocacy service is here to help you get your views across; both in relation to decisions about your life as well as the decisions that affect all children and young people in care in York.

We want to know what you think about how Children’s Services should be run as well as what you want to happen in your life. For further information please visit YorOK.

You said, we did

What you say really makes a difference. Don't just take our word for it, visit YorOK to see what has changed as a result of young people telling us what they think.
